ARTIST’S NOTE:
In crafting this graphite piece, I had fun playing around with relationships between hard edges and round shapes, as well as dark and light values, and textures. The result was this majestic woman who has a steely, almost cyborg-like quality. Note the contrast between her squared-off jawline and facial planes versus the curves of her supple lips and enormous, perfectly round Afro. Also, there is something resolute yet seductive about her gaze.
